Preserving Memories

In a 2003 interview with Nancy Reagan, Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes, asked about the Reagan’s “golden years” together. She responded, “They were very short, the golden years. The golden years are when you can sit back, hopefully, and exchange memories. And that’s the worst part about this disease. There’s nobody to exchange memories with.”

Creating a DVD and or a memory book, may help to reconnect and comfort a grieving person with the life they once knew. Looking through pictures and memorabilia helped me to remember that there was once a life together filled with family, friends and fun times. In creating my DVD and book, I tried capturing the different milestones of my husband’s life and of our life together.

I was so fortunate to find John and Donna Reid of “a day in your life photography” to help me to create a storyline of our life together. Although it was an emotional journey, I enjoyed working with them on the project. Needless to say the first 20 times of viewing the DVD I just cried; but now I smile when I watch it because I am finally able to remember back when my husband was well and our life together was comfortable and fun.

I encourage you to call them to find out about creating a book and/or DVD to celebrate your life with a loved one who suffers from Alzheimer’s or related-dementia.
